The Path Forward
WORK WITHIN THE TRIBAL ORGANIZATION
The Tribal boards, committees, departments and programs have (or are developing/revising) their own
vision, mission and value statements which link back to the Cowlitz Tribe’s overarching vision, mission
and values.
Each part of the Tribal organization is working with the Planning Committee to define their scope of
operations and identify the Tribal services they currently provide including the following activities:
• Boards and committees are reviewing their delegations of authority from Tribal Council, relevant
Tribal codes, bylaws, policies and procedures
• Boards, committees, departments and programs are developing organizational charts of
existing structures
• All are developing brief descriptions of the services they provide
• All are working to identify their stakeholders, clients, patients or aspects of the Tribal community
that they serve
Preliminary work has been done to map out existing and future budget calendaring, including a Tribal code
review for the budgeting cycle. This work includes the newly emerging availability of unrestricted Tribal
government funds as well as the more established procedures for funds generated on a variety of yearly
funding and granting cycles.
WORK WITH GENERAL COUNCIL
There are several ways the General Membership can help us in the process on our path moving forward
such as:
34
• Complete the Tribal Census and US Census when they are issued
• Participate in Tribal surveys and needs assessments when administered
• Update enrollment information
• Attend meetings, such as Town Halls
• Be involved (when able) in Tribal activities and events
