WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
A GEOLOGICAL WONDER
The natural history of the Falls River watershed provides a dramatic tale of geological change
and biological adaptation. Some of the most profound transformations are of fairly recent
origin, specifically from the 1600s to the late 1900s. Many others took place much earlier. The
signs of this compelling legacy are everywhere around us, from the forested tranquility of the
Falls River Cove to emerging new ecosystems upstream as the river returns to a natural free-
flowing state.
